The Wattage Rule for Outdoor Events
Outdoors, sound dissipates rapidly into open air with no walls to reflect it. The rule: you need roughly double the wattage compared to indoor events. For 100 people outdoors, you need a minimum of 800–1000W RMS to ensure the people at the back of the crowd hear music clearly without distorting the front.
Recommended Setup: JBL PartyBox 710
For a 100-person outdoor party, our JBL PartyBox 710 at 800W RMS is the ideal single-speaker solution. Position it against a solid boundary — a fence, the side of a house, or a brick wall — to reflect bass energy forward into the crowd. This dramatically improves bass response outdoors.
Power and Weather Checklist
Before your outdoor event, confirm: (1) you have access to a 240V wall outlet or an inverter generator, (2) there's a covered area (patio, marquee) to protect the speaker from rain, and (3) your extension cable is rated for outdoor use and at least 10A. Our speakers draw around 5–8A at full volume.
